Logging in

Question: How do I login to the full P2 Tools database?

Answer: In the upper left hand corner of any website page, in the client area box, enter your Login, Password, and then select GO. You can log in on any page of the website. You must be a paid subscriber to receive a Login and Password, and you must have cookies enabled on your web browser. Also:

• Make sure that when you type in the Login and Password your CAPS LOCK button is not on (unless your user ID and password are in all caps).
• Recheck the confirmation email you received when you first subscribed to be sure that you are logging in exactly as your selected Login and Password.
• Be sure that your subscription hasn't expired. Your subscription period appears each time you log in.

Searching

Question: How do I find hazardous waste regulations?

Answer: Try an advanced search, where Tool Type = Regulation and Media = Hazardous Waste; you can sort the answers by Topic to narrow your search to a specific area.

Question: How would I find pollution prevention ideas?

Answer: There are numerous ways with the database. On advanced search, 1) set Topic = Pollution Prevention (or try Innovation); 2) set Topic = Pollution Prevention and Industry = applicable SIC code; 3) Topic = Pollution Prevention and Media = air, if emissions are a concern; 4) Topic = Pollution Prevention and Tool Type = case studies, if you only want case studies. These are just some of the approaches you can take.

Question: I want to download reporting software for the upcoming SARA filing. How can I find this?

Answer:   Try Regulation Category = SARA to pull up all links involving SARA filing.

Question: I need to do a BACT analysis for air emission control. How can I use the database to help me?

Answer:   Try Topic = Treatment Method and Media = Air to pull up all links involving air emission controls. For a less restrictive search, set Media = Air. You might also try Topic = Process Equipment and Media   = Air.

Question: How can I find items pertaining to my industry?

Answer:   Try Tool Type = Industry Resource Center; you could add your SIC code under Industry to further refine the search.

Question: How do I use the Keyword in a search?

Answer:   When you type a word or phrase in the Keyword area, a search of database article keywords, as well as other database entries (Tool Title, Tool Summary, for example) will be done and entries with the word or phrase will appear in the search results. Please note: if you search for entries pertaining to the metal lead, you may get also entries with the word "lead" as well. And, you may get results that have your particular word as a part of another word in the title or summary.

Question: What is meant by "fee based content = yes" in the search result returned?

Answer:   You will need to pay a copyright, subscription, or other type of publishing fee to obtain the referenced resource. Links are provided to publishers in the event you wish to secure a copy of a particular resource. If "fee based content" is marked "no", this means there is no charge for access to the content.

Sharing P2 Tools content

Question: Can I share my user ID and password with a colleague?

Answer: Your Login and Password are for your subscription only and may not be shared, unless it is part of a group discount subscription plan. Read the next question to see how you can share information you find in the database.

Question: How can I share information I find in the P2 Tools database with colleagues?

Answer: You may:

•  Download content that is provided as a download in the P2Tools database

•  Print out a single copy of a P2 Tool citation and route it to colleagues

               However, you may not:

•  Share your Login and Password, unless part of a group discount subscription plan

•  Link to or put P2 Tools database content on your network

•  Republish or repackage content from P2 Tools

•  Routinely copy and distribute portions of P2 Tools database content
